With Witkoff set to deliver US and European positions on Ukraine to the Kremlin, German leader Merz reiterated Berlin’s support for Kyiv on Wednesday and called Ukraine’s capitulation “not an option,” likening it to Europe’s own. While little is known about the European terms discussed in Oslo before Witkoff’s visit, the Kremlin has already dismissed them as “unlikely to be a constructive contribution,” as the parties are nowhere near reaching common ground.
