La Organización Meteorológica Mundial (OMM) prevé que la temperatura de la superficie marina del Pacífico sea 3,8 °C superior a la media entre noviembre y enero. En eventos anteriores había llegado a 3 y produjo graves consecuencias. Celeste Sauro, secretaria general del organismo, pidió tomar acciones anticipadas para reducir los daños.
